Pixlr

Image
List the six (6) PIXLR tools/manipulations and explain how and/or why you used each one. I added images and the background, put an "overlay" on the background to bring out the warmer tones. Used the cutout tool to remove the background from the images I added, and rotated and cropped them so they were appropriately sized. Adjusted the color and light on some of the images I uploaded so they looked like they fit on the background. Had to figure out how to lock certain things so everything wasnt floating all around when I moved pieces. Compare Photoshop and PIXLR E - Pros, Cons? Would you use these tools in your art classroom? Pixlr is by far easier to use, and its free. I would maybe use this in a classroom but probably never Photoshop. Maybe they exist but I've never been to or heard of a school that has access to Photoshop apps year round, and I dont think that 4 hours of me teaching myself either of these programs qualifies me to teach them to a group of students. You...

Sacha Jafri

Have you heard of Sacha Jafri before this assignment? His name is very familiar but I don't think I've heard of him before today. What are your thoughts on his work? What are your thoughts on this mission? His style of art doesn't really interest me a ton, though I think it may feel different in real life since his most recent work is so large and the size of the piece is so monumental. I think his "mission" seems like a great one, a good way to bring people together for a common cause and raise money at the same time. How can you use Jafri's art in your classroom? What lessons could you teach with his art? I think Jafri's work would be interesting to use in a group or full-class project, creating an installation that brings the students together for a common goal. The idea of "community" comes up a lot in his work and is something that feels even more important to talk about now than ever before, while students and adults are getting used to bei...

Digital Imagery

How do digital images play a role in your day-to-day life?  In your personal life?  How do digital images play a role in the way you experience your world?   I feel like the point we're at when considering technology and social media, digital images are unavoidable and something we interact with everyday even when we dont realize it. Social media falls at the top of the list, now that we have such easy access to our cell phones and the internet it seems like you'd have to re ally go out of your want to avoid any connection with digital images. I've taken "breaks" from social media in the past, wanting to have some distance between myself and the digital world, but sometimes its hard to skip over something thats so quick and easy to use especially when you count on it as a means of communication with people you wouldnt otherwise see everyday. What are your thoughts on ethics and aesthetics as it relates to photojournalism and digital imagery manipulation? Seeing a ...
