Newsletter

  1. Do you think creating a classroom newsletter is an effective way to communicate with your audience? Why or Why Not? For sure, yes. I feel like it could even be something thats just printed large on a poster instead of handed out to every student. A nice way to share upcoming events and to recap what we've gone over in class too. 2. What did you think about the process of creating a newsletter using InDesign? I do not enjoy InDesign, I'm glad to have learned a few things here and there but none of it sticks for me. 3. How did this project strengthen your digtial /new media skills?

Observation Discussion Response

What types of observations did my peers make that were similar to mine? How and why are they similar?  What types of observations did my peers make that were different to mine?  How and why are they different? It was interesting to hear that most of my classmates are in schools that are also having major attendance issues, something that I'm sure picked up now that students are back in-person since their time virtual. Stories from very suburban schools to city schools did seem to differ, just from my experience in Lancaster and in the city the energy of the students and the behavior issues that come along with that were very different. There were a lot of mentions of vacancies (teachers and aides out), which constantly comes up at the two schools im observing as well. I think all of us are feeling much better now that we've finally been in person in a classroom, thats definitely the biggest similarity.  Did you find the discussion with your peers of your observa...

Website

What do you think about the process of creating your website? This was actually way easier than I thought it would be, a lot of just clicking and filling in the blank for the most part which was nice compared to other projects. What were your biggest challenges and how did you overcome them? The biggest one was really just gathering photos of all of my work, but we needed to do that for another class anyway so most of mine was together in some manner. Narrowing down the photos I have so thats its not an overwhelming amount of work to look at, that was tricky but worked out in the end. What was your favorite aspect of creating the portfolios? Honestly just looking at all of the things Im capable of, seeing all the work ive created over the years made me feel really accomplished. Do you think your portfolio is successful? Why or why not? I think so. Definitely still in progress, I still have some work to complete on it before I think its ready for other people to see. But its a nice way ...

Two Face Portrait

Image
I used a photo of my dog for this project in an effort to not have to stare at my own face 😅 I adjusted the brightness because the photo was a little dark in the first place, and edited the contrast because I liked that it pulled out the gray in his fur now that he's an oldie. Crystalize didn't do a ton without completely distorting the image so I only clicked that one up a little bit, and used Tilt Shift to help blur the top and bottom of the photo. Liquify was a neat tool, I used that in the background and it gave the image real 60's hippie poster vibes. Sharpen was handy to clear up his eye, and I adjusted the hue and saturation to make the color pallet a little less realistic. Lightness and brightness were the less things I messed with, mostly because some parts of the photo were getting lost in the mess of the other tools I used.

Week 11 - Media Literacy : Fair Use, Copyright and Creative Commons

Define the terms Fair Use and Copyright- "Fair Use" covers the idea of being able to use bits and pieces or someones work provided quotations are used, to give credit to the original author without having to worry about copyright. Copyright is a little more strict in its use and definition, an owner has the exclusive right to produce and distribute their creative work, whatever form it might be. Describe Creative Commons and OER (Open Educational Resources) " Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that helps overcome legal obstacles to the sharing of knowledge and creativity to address the world's pressing challenges." They provide public domain tools to give people and organizations a free and easy way to tackle the copyright process and work to create open licensing. Open Education Resources are learning and teaching materials that can be used for free without having to ask, the creator chooses to "retain few, if any, ownership rights". Why a...
